How much benefit is in every calorie and how to choose truly nutritious food
Not all calories are equally useful. 100 calories of spinach carry far more vitamins and minerals than 100 calories of soda. This concept is called nutrient density — the amount of beneficial substances per unit of energy in a food.
Understanding density helps you choose food that saturates with micronutrients rather than "empty calories". Below is what it is, how to calculate it and how to apply it in practice.
What is nutrient density
Nutritional density shows how many micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants) and beneficial components a food contains relative to its calorie content or weight.

How to calculate it
A simple way is the ratio: divide the content of key nutrients (for example, % of the daily value of vitamins C, A, iron, calcium, fiber) by the calorie content.

Count the % of the norm in a serving
Use the data on the label or reference tables.
